Identify what is being transferred
Use a clear written description and the correct waste classification. Include enough information to support safe handling and help the receiving business understand the material.
For waste producers and holders
The producer or holder has a key role in describing the waste and agreeing the transfer record. DWTN gives parties a structured browser form for capturing the information and signatures.
Before a non-hazardous transfer
Use a clear written description and the correct waste classification. Include enough information to support safe handling and help the receiving business understand the material.
Take reasonable steps to confirm the next holder is authorised and the destination is suitable for the waste. A completed form does not replace these checks.
Keep the agreed note and supporting information for the period that applies to your role and waste. Requirements differ for hazardous records and across jurisdictions.
How DWTN helps
Record the waste, parties, collection and destination information in the online WTN workflow. Capture the applicable signatures, generate the PDF and send it to configured recipients.
Team, Business and Enterprise plans include an archive for searching and retrieving PDFs. Choose a plan based on the people and record access your organisation needs.
This page covers non-hazardous business transfers at a general level. Hazardous waste has distinct consignment-note requirements. Scotland’s special-waste rules and other local requirements may also differ.
Official guidance
For each load of non-hazardous business waste moved off premises, a waste transfer note or document with the same information is required. The parties complete the applicable sections, sign, retain a copy and provide it if requested.
Electronic records are permitted in England and Wales, but changing the format does not change the parties’ responsibilities.
