DWTN UK

Who needs a WTN?

Every handover has
people responsible for it.

DWTN UK serves waste producers, carriers, brokers, dealers and receivers across the waste-transfer chain. Each organisation needs to understand its own responsibilities. A standard WTN normally records a non-hazardous transfer; hazardous waste has different documentation.

Follow the waste

Different roles. Connected responsibilities.

PRODUCERS & HOLDERS

Your waste, your checks

Describe waste accurately, store it safely and check that the next holder is authorised.

CARRIERS

Move it with the right information

Check registration and documentation, and deliver to an authorised destination.

BROKERS & DEALERS

Check the arrangements you make

Duty of care applies to the waste arrangements you control, even without physically handling the waste.

RECEIVING FACILITIES

Accept and record correctly

Check the description and permit conditions. Eligible sites also have receipt-reporting duties.

Choose the right document

A standard WTN is not for every movement.

Business non-hazardous waste

A load leaving business premises generally needs a WTN or equivalent document. Repeated eligible transfers may use a season ticket.

Hazardous or special waste

Check consignment-note requirements. Do not substitute a non-hazardous WTN for a required consignment note.

Householders are different

Householders have a separate duty to use authorised waste carriers. Do not apply business transfer-note requirements to every household disposal without checking the rules.
